THE WAKING PROJECT: an introduction PALESTRA

Philippa Gander and Sam Trubridge introduce a body of work that has defined their unique collaboration between sleep science and performance design. This presentation introduces salient concerns in sleep science and performance, speculating on possible connections between these two fields of study. Thus the internal world of sleeping, and the hyper sentient behaviour of performance are examined as opposite and paradoxical states. By discussing the theatre show Sleep/Wake  and smaller works like On My Side and Sleepless, Gander and Trubridge will be able to demonstrate how these ideas have been examined and developed as part of a dynamic art/science collaboration.
